Milwaukee's Heather O'Keeffe in Queensland

Heather O'KeeffeMilwaukee's Heather O'Keeffe is in Queensland on an exchange program this semester and recently had an opportunity to see and learn more about how the girls competition is growing in the region.  Heather will be looking for a club to play with while managing her studies.  The following article, courtesy of AFL Queensland, highlights Heather's visit to a Youth Girls AFL Gala event.

2011 was a big year for Footy in the USA with a record number of both players and teams participating during the year. The Denver Bulldogs took out both Division I and the Women's divisions at this year's National Championships. Additionally the USA Revolution and Freedom players stood out, collecting many of this year's tournament honors.

Denver Bulldogs Dominate at 2011 Nationals

The Denver Bulldogs continued their dominance of Aussie Rules Football at the USAFL National Championships with a superb win over the Calgary Kangaroos on Saturday in Texas, scores being 3.2.20 to 0.5.5. The Bulldogs went through their three pool games on Saturday and early Sunday pretty much unchallenged with tough but comprehensive wins over San Diego, Baltimore DC and Seattle before moving onto the final in front of a crowd of 200 passionate footy followers and players.

Nationals Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Australian Rules Football brings us together: eight women ranging in age from early twenties to early thirties, from part time student to full time professional, from the novice footballer to the experienced captain.  Despite our differences, if you saw us on the pitch, you’d think we were all about the same type of healthy, “normal” young woman. Our footy skills would leave no room for wonder about whether or not something was wrong with us. Now look at the picture and try to figure out which one of us has dealt with breast cancer or breast disease. There isn’t one; it’s half of us.
