Calling All Umpires!

It's that time of year again when we all grab our whistles and head for the largest footy carnival in the world: October 19-20 are the game days and Austin, Texas is the place!

If you would like to be considered for umpiring duties at this year's Nationals, please contact Umpire Director, Jeff Persson and let him know if you are:

  1. Attending; not attending; or on the fence
  2. If attending, would you like to umpire full time (6+ games), part time (3-4 games), or help with a game if possible
  3. If attending, do you want new or any additional umpire gear.

Games are the standard 2 x 20mins with three 'blocks' of four matches on Saturday morning and afternoon, Sunday morning, and 5 finals Sunday afternoon.

All umpires are required to arrive Friday, allowing time to attend the umpire meeting at 8pm at the hotel, for rules review, gear distribution, and game assignments.

The Umpire Clinic (open to) will be on Friday afternoon at 1pm in the main hotel (room TBD) followed by a session at the grounds and will finish around 5pm.

Compensation includes:

  • Base Rate - $100 for full time umpire, $60 for part time, and $30 for all others
  • Field Umpire - $30-$50/game based on umpiring level accreditation
  • Goal Umpire - $20/game
  • Food and Water - umpires receive an allocation of food and water during the tournament
  • Massage minutes - TBC
  • Finals Assignments - Finals assignments will be announced Sunday morning and all game rates for finals are double
  • Umpire coaching - senior umpires will again be providing coaching and feedback where possible

Estimated payouts:

  • Full time field umpires will make between $400 and $550 (7 games including finals)
  • Part time field umpires will make between $200 and $250 (4 games including finals)
  • Full time goal umpires will make between $300 and $450 (9-11 games including finals)

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in October!!
