Aug 5, 2024 TAC Day 4 - Britain Outplays Revos in Game 2It has been 22 years since the men of Great Britain and the USA Revolution played Aussie Rules football. The Revos won both matches in 2001 and 2002, and won both. It took two decades for the Bulldogs to flip the script, and they did so with authority. Pinning the Revos back from the opening 30 seconds, Great Britain picked apart the Revos from the second quarter on and despite playing bravely in the back half and getting their chances forward, the Doggies were 47-26 victors at the 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup. Aug 4, 2024 TAC Day 3 - Freedom Kick Away over FranceMomentum is a funny thing. Sometimes it lasts a few minutes, sometimes a few games. For the USA Freedom, the boost they got from their fourth quarter against Ireland in their opener carried forward into all four stanzas against Les Gauloises de la France in Game Two. Seizing control from the opening ball up, the Americans put on a stunning display of offense against a game, but outmatched, French team, scoring a 125-0 victory at the 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup in Toronto. Aug 3, 2024 TAC Day 2 - Revos Hold Off Plucky FranceFrance was the USA Revolution’s last group stage opponent at the 2017 International Cup. Needing a percentage boost to sneak into the Grand Final at the MCG, Les Coqs put an immense amount of pressure on the Americans, and despite a 113-point victory, fought well enough to keep the Revos out of the top two. A similar effort was given by the French men’s team to open the 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup, but seven years on, the Roosters went toe-to-toe with the Americans and gave them a might run for their money. Aug 2, 2024 TAC Day 1 - Freedom Recover Well in Loss to IrelandIreland had two opponents in their 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup opening game against the USA Freedom: the American side, and the humidity. In the end, they handled both, but it was the side in blue who coped with the thick air at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto. After falling behind by 45 points at three-quarter time, Team USA rallied against a fading Banshees group to close the gap in a 56-32 loss. Read more » |
Jul 31, 2024 Freedom Ringing - TransAtlantic Cup PreviewBeauty is in the eye of the beholder. And from where we sit, the growth of women’s Aussie Rules is the apple of our collective eyes. Women’s footy was repressed for many years in Australia, and seen as a curiosity when leagues started to be formed. But by the 2000’s, there was growth and the will to make something sustainable. By the 2010’s, there were calls for a professional league in line with their men’s counterpart, and that all came to a head in 2017 with the birth of AFLW. Read more » |
Jul 30, 2024 Revolution Revs Up - TransAtlantic Cup PreviewTwenty-five years ago, a Revolution began. It wasn’t a revolt, rebellion, or a mutiny, much like the one that led to the foundation of our country. But it was, in a sense, a coup. A new national team in a sport that no one representing it had played growing up. This was the USA Revolution Aussie Rules football club. In 1999, they played their first game, a 20-point win over Canada in Chicago. Back then, there was around a dozen or so clubs, and the local American players were easily distinguishable by their lack of skills. Read more » |
Jul 19, 2024 July 2024 Odin Mortgage Coaches PollsI feel a Freeze in the atmosphere. No, not just that my air conditioning is turned up high thanks to the summer heat. Jun 28, 2024 Buzz Buzz Buzz Buzz - Previewing the Western RegionalsUtah might be the strangest looking hexagon out there, but it is definitely unique. It was the pioneer spirit and want of a new life that brought Brigham Young and his fellow settlers to the little groove between the Great Salt Lake and the rising peaks of the Wasatch Range. When he arrived, he noticed that there were no natural sweeteners other than honey available. Just bees. Lots of bees. Read more » |
Jun 18, 2024 June 2024 Odin Mortgage Coaches PollsBefore we get into the June Polls, a bit of a disclaimer. The timing of this poll was changed to coincide with a promotion from our sponsor, Odin Mortgage. So while this is coming out a couple of days after the Super Regionals, all of the votes were gathered prior to the weekend. And while we won't know how this past weekend in Ohio or next weekend in Utah will affect how the pollsters thought of the teams, we have a pretty good idea as to how they felt heading into it. Jun 13, 2024 Rocky Road to Dublin - Previewing the Super RegionalsOkay, so the song is talking about Dublin, Ireland, and while the interstates and friendly skies leading towards central Ohio are generally well paved and (hopefully) turbulence free, we begin our Midsummer Aussie Rules quest. First stop: Dublin, Ohio. Read more » |
May 17, 2024 May 2024 Odin Mortgage Coaches PollsThe 2024 season is roughly 20 games old, it's time for our first Odin Mortgage Poll set. Teams are still waking up from hibernation, and starting to stretch their sea legs. With a base built of the back of the preseason poll ranks - determined by the 2023 USAFL Nationals - a handful of coaches cast their vote for where they think each of the teams sits after a small sample size. The answer to that question? Well, not much of a difference from seven months ago. But there was some movement. Read more » |
