MAAFL season starts in Atlanta

The new MAAFL season started as the old one ended, with defending MAAFL Premiers St. Louis handing the Kookaburras a defeat.  The game was a see-saw ripper with the Blues gutting through 10.10.70 to 9.7.61.  With so many players gone from last year's championship side, there is no telling whether the Blues can manage a third straight league title, but they started out with a tough win on the road at the renowned Horsey Park in the-overly-tittered Cummings, GA.

College Update

This Saturday the Vandy Aussie Rules Clubs will take to the field at Elmington Park with five Vandy seniors wearing Black & Gold for the last time.....


President & Captain - Jonathan Mott will lead the team for the last time with seniors Evan Gardiner, Robert Caldwell, Jason Newquist, and Daniel Branscomb. The club was really founded and developed on these now senior players who have been playing with the club since their sophomore year.

I derived from the Legacy Sharks side. Along with my playing responsibilities I was elected the inaugural President of this fine CAFA organization.

NC Tigers vs Etobicoke Kangaroos

The North Carolina Tigers will play host to the Etobicoke Kangaroos of
Toronto Canada. The Kangaroos are on a tour of the United States and are
visiting a past player, Matt Gordon. Matt Gordon, a NC Tigers player, spent
last summer training with the Kangaroos while performing an internship in
Canada. In appreciation for Matt playing, the Kangaroos agreed to stop by
North Carolina and take on the Tigers. The game will be held Saturday, May
7 at 11:00 o'clock AM at Miller Fields on the campus of North Carolina

Umpire Clinic at the Wild West Shootout

The scene was Las Vegas, the tournament- The Wild West Shootout, the temperature- a sizzling 90 degrees, so why not hold an umpire clinic as well?


In the backdrop of the pulsating Las Vegas strip, budding, new AFL accrediting umpires took their first steps to Level 1 accreditation. 


The new accreditation course, Level 1, Tier A, was the reason that 10 of us crowded into this hotel room at Terrible’s Hotel and Casino in Nevada.

UMPIRING AT THE OKAY CORRAL


In the Summer heat of 2004, it struck the boys at the Tucson Javelinas, that this might just be about the perfect time to have an umpires clinic in Arizona.  Well, that was fine for the locals but it was a most interesting time for the Umpire’s Coach Brian Green, and his son Sam who slipped away from the melting snow in New York City to be confronted with the wilting cactus and howling coyote.

Colorado's First In-door Aussie Rules demo

May 13th the Denver Bulldogs, 4 Time National USAFL Champions, will host Colorado’s first in-door Australian Rules Football demo game on an Arena Football field when they play at halftime between the Colorado Crush and the Nashville Kats.


The demo will be a quick game to show the fans some of the aspects of the game.  Should be a fast paced hard-hitting affair.

Florida Redbacks hit the news

Following a visit from a Channel 47 reporter to training this week and to the Baltimore/Washington game, the Florida Redbacks will be on television this weekend. They will feature on Channel 47 on Friday and Sunday at 8.00pm. This is a first for the Redbacks and is a great reflection on the hard work of their committee.  Be sure to look for it if you are in the viewing area. Congratulations to you all.

International Footy Comes to Raleigh

May 7, 2005 - Raleigh, North Carolina. The North Carolina Tigers will play host to the Etobicoke Kangaroos of Toronto Canada. The Kangaroos are on a tour of the United States and are visiting a past player, Matt Gordon. USAFL'er in Japan

So today (April 2nd) I had my first practice and footy game.  We play at
a "field" by Osaka Castle.  Why I put "field" instead of field I will
explain later.  I went to the park to look for the field, and after
having my picture taken a few times, I finally found the field.  It was
a huge sports complex and there were about 150 Japanese playing various
sports on the "field".  I saw three Japanese teenagers suit up in full

This spring, young residents of Wauwatosa, Wis., got the opportunity to play by a different set of rules when the Wauwatosa Recreation Department offered its first-ever Australian rules football program for youths in grades 3 and up.

Andrew Bednall voted in as Treasurer of the USAFL

The USAFL executive board would like to announce that Andrew Bednall was unanimously appointed Treasurer of the USAFL in late January. Andrew’s appointment is seen as a major step in our objective of ensuring that the USAFL continues to grow in a professional and responsible manner.
