VIDEO: Mason Cox Splendid in AFL Debut

Though he wasn't the first American to make his AFL debut in 2015, Oklahoma's Mason Cox arugably put on the best performances by a Yank so far.

The 6'11" ruckman played a shade over a half of football for the Collingwood Magpies, during which he amassed a team high fourteen hitouts in a seven point loss to arch-rival Carlton in a NAB Challenge match at the Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo.

Combine Records Set Again

Towering American Mason Cox will head to Australia later this month to be trialed by four AFL clubs interested in signing him as an international rookie.

Cox, who at 211.4cm is the tallest player ever tested by the AFL in Australia or overseas, was a standout at last month's USA Combine at Los Angeles.

His speed, agility and ball-handling impressed onlookers, so much so that he will travel to Australia and take another important step towards joining an AFL list.

Time to leap into US market

It's a sneak peek at the brave new world of AFL, recruiting athletic talent and size which simply isn't available in Australia in anywhere near the numbers of the United States.

Paul Roos has always believed the US college basketballers are an obvious source of talent for the AFL and the recent visit of 200cm plus trio Jason Holmes, Mark Cisco and Patrick Mitchell has only strengthened his view.

A display of their amazing skills above the rim on a Moore Park basketball court provided a tantalizing glimpse of just what they could do with a Sherrin in their hands.
