2014 International Cup dates confirmed

The AFL is pleased to announce the 2014 International Cup will be held in Melbourne from Saturday August 9 to Saturday August 23 2014.

The fifth International Cup carnival will include two AFL curtain-raiser matches, matches played at AFL and VFL venues, a men’s and women’s competition, a standalone AFL 9s fixture and matches linked with community football leagues.

AFL International Development Manager Tony Woods said the aim was to make IC14 the biggest International Cup to date.

Indy Giants Form Partnership with GWS

The Indy Giants are proud to announce a partnership with the AFL's GWS Giants. The Indy Giants, co-founded by Dr. Sam Pope and Matt Jagger, are planting the seed as the newest USAFL club and are preparing for their inaugural season. Says Dr. Pope, “I am amazed by the support of the football community, both here in the US and Australia. Being centrally located in the midwest, Indianapolis is surrounded by many USAFL clubs within a few hours drive. It’s a no-brainer and we hope to host many tournaments in the years-to-come.”

A Day at the Footy Like Never Before!

As an expat there is nothing quite like a day at the footy. A chance to watch our great game, get your teeth into a pie and just soak up the embodiment of Australiana. Ah, it is good to be home – even if just for a short while. That is what I was looking forward to when I planned a trip to the AAMI Stadium in Adelaide to see Port host the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants. Well, this day ended up being like none other at the footy.

ANZAC Day 2013

Prospects Impress at Final Day of Testing

In a test unfamiliar to college basketballers, athletes excelled with impressive times in the 3km test. It was the final test of the 2013 AFL International Combine in LA today.

David Grzesiak from Wisconsin excelled with an elite time of 10mins 34sec, while ruck prospects 204cm Taylor Broekhuis (11min 24sec), 200cm Nathan Healy (11min 28sec) and 208cm Olatunji Kosile (11min 38sec) showed very impressive endurance in the unfamiliar and grueling test.

Records Broken at USA AFL International Combine

USA athletes attending the AFL International Combine in Los Angeles have broken records today.

Three athletes, David Grzesiak from the University of Wisconsin, Matt Sauey from the University of North Florida, and Cliff Ederine from the University of Eastern Washington, broke the standing  vertical jump record of 85cm with 86cm leaps to become the best ever preformers in 18 years of testing.

The overall performances of the group really impressed the six AFL club representatives in attendance.

AFL US Combine Underway

The athletes attending this year’s AFL US Combine have traveled from all across the US. This year's pool of players have come from basketball backgrounds primarily and also includes USAFL player David Grzesiak of the Chicago Swans.

Day one of the combine included a warm welcome from AFL Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan and an address by Sydney Swans Premiership player Tadhg Kennelly, who is regarded as one of the most success international recruits in AFL history.
