Nov 6, 2013 USAFL Mourns the Passing of Houston Lonestars PlayerThe greater USAFL community is mourning the passing of Houston Lonestars player Craig Ruggles, who tragically and unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, November 3, aged 29. David Bryant, VP of the Lonestars says, “Craig Ruggles was a committed member and great friend within the Houston Lonetsars football community. He will be forever remembered for his energy and passion for the game he adopted 5 years ago when he joined the Lonestars. Craig was one of the early players at the club and through his commitment and positive outlook helped develop a strong culture at the club. He will be sorely missed both on and off the field but his legacy will live forever with the Houston Lonestars.” Read more » |
Nov 2, 2013 USAFL Seeks New TreasurerThe USAFL are seeking applications for the Executive Board position of Treasurer beginning December 2013. Keith Nelson, the current Treasurer, has advised the board he will be stepping down from the position. Keith has currently held the position since June 2012. Oct 22, 2013 Home Team Wins National Championship!For the first time in USAFL history, the host city's home team has won the Division 1 championship. The Austin Crows played a hard fought match against the Calgary Kangaroos to take out this year's title by only 1 point - 4.2.26 to 4.1.25. This was the Crows first year in Division 1 and they showed everyone why they deserved to be there. Read more » |
Oct 19, 2013 Nationals Day 1 ReviewDay 1 of the 2013 USAFL National Tournament has drawn to a conclusion with a number of teams clearly set with their eyes on the finals. In Division 1 the Denver Bulldogs, Calgary Kangaroos, Austin Crows and New York Magpies have all finished day one with two wins each. First up tomorrow, the Denver Bulldogs take on the Calgary Kangaroos at 9am and the Austin Crows and New York Magpies will take the field at 10am to decide who make it through to the final at 4pm. Oct 15, 2013 Aussie Football Returns to Austin’s City LimitsThe United States Australian Football League’s (USAFL) National Tournament returns to Austin this weekend, October 19-20. The tournament is expected to attract more than 1,000 athletes from all over North America for the two-day event being held at Onion Creek Soccer Complex, south of downtown. This is the second time the tournament has been held in Austin with the first in 2011. After much success and positive feedback the vote was unanimous to return. Read more » |

On October 19th & 20th in Austin, TX, these two sides will head into the 2013 USAFL National Championships as dual number one seeds in Division One. Both sides undoubtedly feel they have a claim to last year's vacated title, left open when the Dallas Magpies were officially disqualified from competing in Division One at the 2013 tournament. Oct 9, 2013 State of the USAFLOver the past year, the USAFL Executive Board has been hard at work instituting best practices for non-profits and creating systems to uphold league rules and regulations/policies. While the league hovers around 1,000 annual members, the USAFL is advancing as an organization. As a better organization we can be poised for more league growth. We must have one before the other. The past 24 months board activities focused on the non-profit aspect of the league ensuring the organization is well prepared to answer the IRS if an audit occurred.
