2014 International Cup dates confirmed

The AFL is pleased to announce the 2014 International Cup will be held in Melbourne from Saturday August 9 to Saturday August 23 2014.

The fifth International Cup carnival will include two AFL curtain-raiser matches, matches played at AFL and VFL venues, a men’s and women’s competition, a standalone AFL 9s fixture and matches linked with community football leagues.

AFL International Development Manager Tony Woods said the aim was to make IC14 the biggest International Cup to date.

Nationals Logo, Hotel and More

Austin, the "Live Music Capital of the World" plays host once again to the USAFL Nationals. This year's logo highlights the cities musical attributes and the National tournament follows closely on the heels of the Austin City Limits music festival, which will take over the town from October 4-13.

Record Numbers Attend Freedom Camp

A record 70+ attended the 2013 USA Freedom Training camp in the San Francisco East Bay over the weekend of June 1-2. Players came from all over the US including New York, Boston, Minnesota, Baltimore, Washington DC, Columbus, Arizona, Denver, Los Angeles and Sacramento. The Golden Gate Roos and San Francisco Iron Maidens were the proud hosts for the weekend offering up support to the players on and off the field.

LMS Points Adjustments

The USAFL is announcing a slight change to the Nationals Eligibility Point (NEP) structure.  Previously 1/2 point was earned for metro matches and 1 point was earned in USAFL matches.  All points are now doubled:

US Marines Get an Introduction to Footy

Members of the US Marine Rotational Force Darwin (MRF-D) were recently introduced to the great game of footy by the Northern Territory Thunder at a training session in Darwin in preparation for a game on June 8.

USA Freedom Descend Upon the San Francisco Bay Area

Women from all over the USA have descended upon the San Francisco Bay area for this weekend's USA Freedom training camp and tryouts. A record will be set with over 70 participants attending in the hopes of representing their country against Canada at the 49th Parallel Cup in Edmonton this August.

Players have traveled from as far as New York, Boston and Minnesota as as close as San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles.

Saturday Morning Footy Begins June 8

The Saturday Morning Footy junior development programs begins on June 8 at Bluemont Park, Arlington, VA.

Boys and girls aged 5 to 15 are welcome to participate in the fun and free activities to learn the skills and rules of the great game of Australian football. The under 9s participate in clinics based on Australian Football League’s Auskick program - the highly successful Australian youth sporting program.

Indy Giants Form Partnership with GWS

The Indy Giants are proud to announce a partnership with the AFL's GWS Giants. The Indy Giants, co-founded by Dr. Sam Pope and Matt Jagger, are planting the seed as the newest USAFL club and are preparing for their inaugural season. Says Dr. Pope, “I am amazed by the support of the football community, both here in the US and Australia. Being centrally located in the midwest, Indianapolis is surrounded by many USAFL clubs within a few hours drive. It’s a no-brainer and we hope to host many tournaments in the years-to-come.”
