USA Freedom Descend Upon the San Francisco Bay Area
Women from all over the USA have descended upon the San Francisco Bay area for this weekend's USA Freedom training camp and tryouts. A record will be set with over 70 participants attending in the hopes of representing their country against Canada at the 49th Parallel Cup in Edmonton this August.
Players have traveled from as far as New York, Boston and Minnesota as as close as San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles.
"I'm really excited to be here and meet a lot of new faces. This is my second Freedom event and I hope to make an impression", said New York Magpie, Kim Hemenway.
We have new coaches joining the squad at camp this year with Dale "Diesel" Williams of Minnesota, John Ironmonger from Denver and the San Francisco locals, Leigh Barnes and Troy Anthony.
"I'm keen to get to know all our players and excited to be a part of this great program" stated Diesel. "I'm looking forward to seeing what the girls can produce against Canada come August."
The weekend begins with a meet and greet Friday evening and Saturday will be a full day with a morning training session followed by lunch and an afternoon of games. The Golden Gate Roos will be hosting the afternoon events and the Roos will also be playing a match against the Sacramento Suns.
The weekend will finish off with a light training session Sunday followed by a mystery tour organized by the coaching staff.
