Season Preview Part IX - Womens West

What a long, strange trip it’s been.  We’re finally at the last of the nine part season preview series.  And we saved the best for last.

Just as it has in the men’s game, the West has produced some of the best women’s football, and, owing to the fact that Denver was in this region up until last season, an astounding nine D1 championships on the trot, as well as all four D2 titles contested.

Six Americans Lead Charge Towards AFLW

It’s been a meteoric rise for women’s Aussie Rules football over the past five years.

The most visible aspect has been the birth of AFL Women’s in 2017 and its rapid growth.  From eight teams in its inception year of 2017, the league is poised to go up to fourteen clubs next year, and it will only be a matter of time before all eighteen AFL member clubs are represented.

Season Preview Part VII - Womens East

The biggest development in our great game, not just in Australia or here in the USAFL, but all around the world, has been from women’s football.  Indeed, a professional league now exists, state leagues in Australia are growing, and hundreds – if not more – of grass roots programs have sprung up and are already weaving themselves into the fabric of the sport’s community.

No fewer than 22 USAFL clubs have a women’s program as 2019 gets underway, and there is always the possibility of more, as we’ve seen in the past.

Season Preview Part VI - Mens West Region North

The Northwest United States is known for its mountainous terrain, towering over the rest of the countryside in its picturesque beauty.

It is an adequate metaphor for the teams based in this area, as they have been a cut above the rest of the field over the last decade.  From the Cascadia teams on through Northern California, teams from the region have won or challenged for trophies on Sunday afternoon at Nationals on a regular basis.

Season Preview Part V - Mens West Region South

One part of the USAFL equation that has remained constant has been the prowess of the west coast teams.  Each year, they have several teams vying for titles in the men’s division.

In fact, since 2011, there have been at least two teams from the West in a Grand Final at Nationals.  That’s a pretty impressive streak, and one that doesn’t appear to be letting up any time soon.

Bogota Bulldogs Welcome Austin, Denver in Historic Matches

Even in 2019, the game of Australian Rules football is still finding new frontiers to conquer.  As much as the international game has developed over the past several seasons, footy is still blooming in heretofore barren locations.

Two USAFL clubs will make the historic journey to Bogotá, Colombia, in the first slate of matches between North and South American teams.  This Americas Series will see the Bogotá Bulldogs host the defending D1 National Champion Austin Crows this coming weekend, followed by the Denver Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs on May 19th.

Freedom Name IC2020 Training Squad

The USA Freedom Women's National Team is proud to announce fifty-four women who have been selected to the 2020 AFL International Cup Training Squad.

Chosen from a group of 125 athletes, including those who attended last month’s open camp in Arizona, the members of the Training Squad have secured a spot to the summer invite-only camp in Racine, Wisconsin from August 15-19.

From there, individuals will be selected to travel to Australia for next year’s International Cup tournament, the details of which are still to be confirmed by the AFL.
