Marshall Makes Most of AFLW Debut

Arizona Hawk and USA Freedom player Danielle Marshall made the most of her historic AFLW debut, scoring a goal with her first kick of senior football as the Western Bulldogs defeated the St Kilda Saints by 25 points.

Match report by Alyce Collett:

Round One of the 2020 AFLW season saw a debut in the competition for St Kilda and return to their spiritual home at Moorabbin, but it was the Western Bulldogs who got their season off to the best start, winning by 25 points.

Marshall's Debut Part of Blockbuster Weekend

In July, the dream of an American woman playing in AFLW moved closer when Dani Marshall signed on with the Western Bulldogs senior side.

Today, seven months later, that dream moves to the precipice of reality.

The Dusty Road to Darwin; Kloh Follows Her Football Passion

Rosemary Kloh’s second date with Rob Kwoka was life changing.

Rob had asked her to come along and watch his sister, Lauré, play in the USAFL Western Regional Championships for the Sacramento Suns.

“I had no idea what was going on,” she recalls.  “I just cheered when Rob cheered.”

It was the beginning of two successful courtships.  Four and a half years after that date -- a couple of days after this past Christmas -- Rob popped the question, and Kloh replied in the affirmative.

Four Honor and Glory; Maidens Outlast Field

It’s best to not question greatness.

We can scrutinize, analyze, and predict.  But it’s all about execution, and when push comes to shove, the cream rises to the top.

For the San Francisco Iron Maidens, they took the brunt of everything an incredibly potent Women’s Division 1 field had to give.   There were questions even on Sunday afternoon as to whether the juggernaut would last another year.

And still, they ended up lifting their fourth straight National Championship trophy on Sunday, October 13th at the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

2019 Nationals Preview - Womens Division 1 and 2

More and more women are playing Australian Rules Football.

And more importantly, the football they’re playing is getting better with each passing year.

For the first time in USAFL history, there will be not one, but two Grand Finals in the women’s divisions, with both competitions fielding six sides.  All told, 24 clubs will be represented in the Women’s Competition as a whole, the most ever.
