Madison Mid-West Tournament Results

The Milwaukee Bombers hosted the second Madison Australian Football Invitational on July 21.  The day was a great success with a high standard of football and competitive matches played throughout. 

This year's tournament featured seven teams from across the Midwest and two women's matches with players from Minnesota, Columbus and Milwaukee.  Participating men's teams included the Chicago Swans, Kansas City Power, Minnesota Freeze and the Columbus Jackaroos in the 18 a side pool.

Kangaroos advance to 8-1 with six goal victory

The Nashville Kangaroos traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina on July 14 hoping to extend their winning start to the 2012 season. Their hosts, the Tigers had an inauspicious season opener in Columbus but were strong at home with a ten goal win over the Philadelphia Hawks in June.

Search for Rucks in America

The Age newspaper reported earlier this week that the AFL will launch the competition's first US-based draft combine during August, 2012 in a bid to lure more tall young North Americans into the game as ruckmen.

The draft camp will be held over two days in either Los Angeles, Chicago or Texas.

The experiment follows the success of Canadian-born ruckman Pyke and the Swans' recent signing of 22-year-old US college basketballer Alex Starling. The Florida-based Starling will be rookie-listed by Sydney in 2013 under the international scheme.

The United States Australian Football League (USAFL) will be hosting the 2012 49th Parallel Cup, a series of matches between US and Canadian national representative teams, on Saturday, August 4th.

OC Bombs the Dragons

The OC Bombers hosted the LA Dragons on Saturday, July 7 in Irvine, and recorded a comfortable 41 point win. It was a tight contest for three quarters before the Bombers pulled away in the last quarter. Some inaccuracy in front of goal stopped OC from posting a much bigger win, having 12 scoring shots to 1 in the last quarter but only gaining a 21 point advantage as a result. The small field meant a lot of congested play, but the Bombers will need to improve in front of goal going forward.

Nashville Kangaroos believe 'pads' is a 4-letter word

No pads. No helmets. No problem.

Australia Rules Football, or “footy” as it is more commonly referred to, is a game that’s been played for more than 150 years in Australia and has found a welcoming home in Nashville and other cities across the United States.

The Nashville Kangaroos are one of the six founding teams of the United States Australian Football League in 1997. Fifteen years later, the league has grown to 44 teams nationwide.

Seeds of Peace USA Summer Camp

The USAFL, Boston Demons Australian Rules football club, and Seeds of Peace are bringing Australian Rules football to Maine this summer. Earlier this year, Peace Team players Yonatan Belik and Leith Jaber contacted the USAFL in hopes of introducing the sport to a summer long camp, located in Otisfield, Maine.
