OC Bombs the Dragons

The OC Bombers hosted the LA Dragons on Saturday, July 7 in Irvine, and recorded a comfortable 41 point win. It was a tight contest for three quarters before the Bombers pulled away in the last quarter. Some inaccuracy in front of goal stopped OC from posting a much bigger win, having 12 scoring shots to 1 in the last quarter but only gaining a 21 point advantage as a result. The small field meant a lot of congested play, but the Bombers will need to improve in front of goal going forward.

There were some very good performances with Scotty Leal leading the way with 4 goals from the midfield, well supported by new Aussie Matty Wright who combined with Scotty and ruckman Mac Oroke to quickly gain stoppage ascendancy. Another first gamer, Guy David, was very solid in the unfamiliar role of center half back, taking some strong grabs and providing good rebound out of defense.

Bombers vice-captain Paul Lima continued his comeback from injury with another good game, and fellow defenders Frank Kenney and Brent Harrington both had a big influence in the backline.

Up forward Jon Collins was very solid at CHF and presented well, while OC stalwarts Brad Wetherall and Seb Aguiari played small forward roles well and combined for some important goals at crucial times.

The Bombers next face the San Diego Lions in Irvine on July 21.
