San Diego Lions

MIRA LOMA, California (July 16, 2001) The San Diego Lions culminated
their undefeated season on Saturday, beating the Santa Cruz Roos to win their
third consecutive California Australian Football League (CAFL) Grand Final.
The final score of the game was 9.15 69 for the Lions to 6.4 40 for the
Roos. The game, played under windy conditions, was a rugged, hard-fought
tactical affair that featured the Roos flooding their defensive zone and the
Lions' normally-potent offense struggling to break through.

Pub Glasses

At the admin conference Phoenix announced their Pub Glass program. I think this is a great way for all clubs to make some money, and also for Phoenix to do some fund-raising by running this so that all clubs can participate.

I would urge other clubs to develop similar programs or ideas for things that you have done as a club. This way the number of items available to all clubs increases, the work is spread across many clubs, and we all benefit.

I was lucky enough top get sent a couple of glasses from Phoenix and they are good quality.

Juniors Clinic in Orange County

St. Centralias Elementary School, Anaheim, California

This past week the Orange County Bombers were asked to put on a juniors clinic at St. Centralias Elementary School, in Anaheim, California. Assistant Coach Simon Milburn traveled out to the school expecting a small group of kids who knew nothing of Aussie Rules. He was pleasantly surprised to find approximately 50 boys and girls eagerly awaiting his arrival. He was even more surprised to find that the kids already knew most of the basic skills, and a number of the rules as well. Turns out the kids had some inside help.

Kansas City Tournament

In what everyone agreed was the best tournament ever, the Denver Bulldogs defended their crown thanks to a one-point win over an up and coming Dallas Magpie side,

The tournament was moved up a month from previous years to avoid the scorching heat, and this proved to be a winner with players and specators alike. Saturday's slate of 6 games was played in perfect 83 F. weather, while Sunday's steady rain provided players with a taste of good old Victorian football from Down Under.
