European Championships - August 2010

Move over soccer, Australian Football is coming to Europe with eight teams from eight European nations to gather in Denmark and Sweden from August 1-7 in the inaugural 16-a-side European Championships in Australian Football 2010.

Demons bring Aussie rules football to Boston area

"The Boston Demons is a team that competes in the United States Australian Football Association, playing against teams from other parts of the country. On July 17, the Demons opened the season, hosting the Nashville Kangaroos at Ipswich River Park in North Reading."

NY Magpies featured in the Wall Street Journal!

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article on the New York Magpies. "Say hello to the New York Magpies, one of about 40 Australian Rules football teams in the country, playing under the auspices of the U.S.A.F.L. and on a field in Yonkers. Or out on Staten Island. Or in Hoboken."

After 20 years of waiting, Jeff Soesbe can finally play. "There's jumping, running, catching, kicking, and charging. It's the best part of sports all rolled into one," said the 44-year-old software engineer. Flipping through television channels in the early 1990s, Soesbe stumbled across a game of Australian-rules football, or as it's colloquially known, "footy."
