Revolution

Records are made to be broken.  So are droughts.

In six matches, the Irish Warriors have downed the USA Revolution four times.  The last American victory was in the third place game IC05, which gave the Revos their best ever finish.

After a scrappy game that was not for the faint of heart, the U.S. came from behind in a feverish fourth quarter to pip Ireland 53-51 in one of the best games in program history.  The win left them as the best Americas side at the 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup, and will roll them into a semifinal against Canada on Friday.

France was the USA Revolution’s last group stage opponent at the 2017 International Cup.  

Needing a percentage boost to sneak into the Grand Final at the MCG, Les Coqs put an immense amount of pressure on the Americans, and despite a 113-point victory, fought well enough to keep the Revos out of the top two.

A similar effort was given by the French men’s team to open the 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup, but seven years on, the Roosters went toe-to-toe with the Americans and gave them a might run for their money.

Twenty-five years ago, a Revolution began.

It wasn’t a revolt, rebellion, or a mutiny, much like the one that led to the foundation of our country.  But it was, in a sense, a coup.  A new national team in a sport that no one representing it had played growing up.

This was the USA Revolution Aussie Rules football club.  In 1999, they played their first game, a 20-point win over Canada in Chicago.  Back then, there was around a dozen or so clubs, and the local American players were easily distinguishable by their lack of skills.
