2016 Season Preview - Men's West

It's no secret that the balance of power in the USAFL has shifted to the West Coast over the last half decade.  In fact, a total 26 Division 1 and Division 2 Grand Finals since Nationals began have featured at least one team from this West Region.

Klatt, Hemenway Carry American Hopes into SCG Clash

Roughly a half century ago, several astronauts walked on the moon and called it “a giant leap for mankind.”

Sydney, Australia, may as well be as far away as the moon.  And the surface of the Sydney Cricket Ground may very well be as hallowed and non-descript as that as our closest satellite rock.

And yet, when Kim Hemenway and Katie Klatt step onto the pitch this Friday night (US time), they will be making a leap of their own.  Not just for American Aussie Rules, but for all of women’s sports.

2016 Season Preview - Men's Central South

Texans like to think they're the center of the universe.  They're like New Yorkers in that respect, except they make better food.

With three teams among the top ten in the country, Texas can make an argument about being the center of the footy world, at least in the USAFL.  With national champions Austin, resurgent Dallas, and burgeoning Houston, there is plenty of top flight footy in the Lone Star State.

2016 Season Preview - Men's Central North

In the beginning, there was light.  It shone, flickering and grainy on TVs across the country, a game played a half a world away that was unlike any other.  And it was good.

And lo, the light begat two teams separated by a mighty flow of water, in the city of Queens and Kings alike.  And Kings begat Bombers and Kangaroos, and Dockers begat Jackaroos and Swans.  And the game grew across the land for years and years into what it is today.

And it is, as it was, good.

2016 Season Preview - Men's East

At one time, the Eastern region could be compared to the Beatles; three talented lead musicians, a steady fourth keeping pace, and a rotating cast of cameos.

Over the past two years, however, the remains of the EAFL have become a solo artist and a backing band.  New York has been the best team on the Eastern seaboard for over a half decade, and though they have lost some of the luster that shone through when they were Divvy 1 champs in 2014, they are still center stage.
