Divisions 2-4 in the men’s and women’s divisions may play the undercard to the top flight, but they certainly do not lack anything in terms of importance or intensity. To win a Division 1 championship at the USAFL Nationals, it takes a combination of skill, perseverance, and, dare it is said, a bit of luck,
The two teams that climbed to the top of Mount Football in the plains of Austin, Texas this past weekend needed all of it. They had been there before, after all. Austin had been used to success on home ground. The Denver Lady Bulldogs, well... they were just used to success.

That’s what was on the lips of most folks watching today in Austin.
All of the talk about seeding and which team deserved to be higher up was thrown out the window and floated away into the hot October heat of central Texas.

This weekend, over 170 women representing 16 clubs will take part in the 2015 USAFL National Championships in Austin.
They also represent numerous municipalities beyond those on their jumpers. They are from a diverse multitude of backgrounds, vocations, ethnicities, and creeds, but they are united by the love of Australian Rules football and the life changing benefits that it has yielded.
For the group taking part in Austin, however, they represent just how far the women’s game has come in the USA in just a decade.
