USAFL Umpire Making His Mark at the International Cup
USAFL umpire Jon Mills is currently in Australia at the International Cup where he has had the opportunity to umpire players from around the world. Teams that he has umpired so far include, Canada and Ireland on the women's side, Great Britain, Timor Leste and Ireland on the men's side.
As the recepient of the 2011 USAFL umpire scholarship Mills has been given the opportunity to learn from some of the best in Australia. On game day Mills receives tips from his assigned umpire coach. On his off days he stays fit by training with the Sydney umpires group.
In addition, USAFL Umpire Director, Jeff Persson is alongside to help ensure Mills gets the most out of the opportunity. Persson has umpired at every AFL International Cup to date and has passed his passion for international umpiring on to Mills who is already talking about plans for returning to the next cup.
