TAC Day 1 - Freedom Recover Well in Loss to Ireland

Ireland had two opponents in their 2024 AFL TransAtlantic Cup opening game against the USA Freedom: the American side, and the humidity.

In the end, they handled both, but it was the side in blue who coped with the thick air at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto.  After falling behind by 45 points at three-quarter time, Team USA rallied against a fading Banshees group to close the gap in a 56-32 loss.

International Cup Postponed, Update on USAFL Season

The Australian Football League has advised that the AFL International Cup, originally scheduled for July 21-August 8 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, has been postponed until 2021 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Freedom Name IC2020 Training Squad

The USA Freedom Women's National Team is proud to announce fifty-four women who have been selected to the 2020 AFL International Cup Training Squad.

Chosen from a group of 125 athletes, including those who attended last month’s open camp in Arizona, the members of the Training Squad have secured a spot to the summer invite-only camp in Racine, Wisconsin from August 15-19.

From there, individuals will be selected to travel to Australia for next year’s International Cup tournament, the details of which are still to be confirmed by the AFL.

IC17 Preview: Matchday 5

Generally speaking, three isn’t a terrible number. It’s company, it’s a part of a full house, and it’s how many movies are in most trilogies.

In the context of the final game of this 2017 AFL International Cup, however, it’s not an ideal number for the USA Freedom and USA Revolution; they’d rather be playing tomorrow at the MCG and Etihad Stadium for first place, rather than at Royal Park for third place, but considering the number of teams behind them that stumbled in their own attempts to get to the big stages, three isn’t all that bad.

You can’t always get what you want.  But if you try some times, you might find, you get what you need.

IC17 Preview: Matchday 4

Three years of work, three rounds of games, and the two American representative sides at the 2017 AFL International Cup have one game each to determine whether or not they’ll play in the Grand Final on the game’s biggest stages, the MCG and Etihad Stadium.

IC17: Freedom, Liberty Set Records, Revos with Work to Do

It went without saying that the two games on this weekend for the two American IC17 clubs would go a long way to determining their chances at playing at the large AFL stadia that house the affections of footy fans in this city.

To quote Lucy Van Pelt, and it’s incredibly après pos here seeing as though we’re in Australia, it’s Sydney or the bush.
