AFL Combine Day 1

The first day of the inaugural AFL USA Combine has been branded a success, with six elite American college athletes breaking Nic Naitanui's standing vertical-leap record.

Held in Los Angeles, the three-day combine is testing 26 college athletes with basketball and NFL football backgrounds. Two will be selected to attend October's NAB AFL Draft Combine at Etihad Stadium. 

Naitanui jumped 78cm at the 2008 NAB AFL Draft Combine as an 18-year-old. The American athletes are older, aged between 23-24, but outdid the West Coast Eagles ruckman.

Another boost for Donnybrook Football Club

Donnybrook Football Club's fortunes continued to improve at the weekend when they chalked up two more wins  and saw a member presented with a national award.

On Sunday night footballer Chris Sheehan was presented with the United States Australian Football League (USAFL) 2012 Recognition for Service Award, for "outstanding contribution towards enhancing the partnership between the USAFL, its players and the Australian Football Community".

The Australia-wide award emphasises Sheehan's efforts in giving US footballers a taste of Australian life.

US Athletes to Attend Inaugural Australian Football Combine

College athletes will attend the inaugural Australian Football US Combine in their first step in pursuing a career in Australia’s leading professional sport.

The Combine will test more than 25 student athletes with basketball and football backgrounds in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles on Tuesday August 28.

The pilot program will mirror the Australian Football League’s (AFL) Combine testing. Similar to the NFL Combine, AFL Combine testing includes standing and vertical jumps, sprinting, agility and endurance.

Suns Invitational is a Shining Success!

Saturday, August 18 2012 - The first-year Sacramento Suns hosted the Suns Invitational Tournament at Nugget Fields in Davis, California. Players from eight different USAFL teams participated in the tournament.

Nashville Kangaroos win the Wayne Schwass Cup

There is something special about the Chicago-Nashville rivalry. The two teams have been the strongest in the MAAFL over the long term, and many times they have played the championship-deciding game. They have played each other every year since the early days of both clubs, splitting the honors fairly evenly. There have been close games and strong personalities. If all that was not enough, in 2012 they added the Wayne Schwass Cup.

OC Host San Diego & Dallas

The OC Bombers hosted the 2011 Division 2 National Champions the Dallas Magpies at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday August 11 in sweltering 100+ degree heat in a mini tournament with the San Diego Lions.

Game one had the Bombers vs Dallas open proceedings, and OC came away with a comfortable 19 point win. The damage was done in the first half as the Bombers hit their straps early and exploded out of the blocks to score three goals before the Magpies knew what was happening. Although Dallas fought back in the second half the Bombers held firm and took the win.

Chicago Swans and Nashville Kangaroos – Inaugural Wayne Schwass Cup

Chicago and Nashville are the titans of the central United States with a long and storied history, just like our professional counterparts in Australia, the Sydney Swans and the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Both USAFL Clubs have been an integral part of the growth of Football in the Central region, and in 2012, that rivalry is set to continue in a big way with the inaugural Wayne Schwass Cup on August 11.

Freedom Win at the 49th Parallel Cup

“Wow, what a great day of footy in the U.S. Congrats to the Revos for their great showings in both games and many thanks to Canada for bringing down 4 full squads, they have set the bar very high for the 2013 Parallel Cup in their homeland, bring it on” exclaimed an enthusiastic Coach Leigh Barnes.

For the first time since 2007 the USA Freedom have defeated the Canada Northern Lights! The two teams have only met 3 times prior; their first hit-out in 2007, the 2010 49th Parallel Cup and the 2011 International Cup.

U.S.A. Revolution Retain the 49th Parallel Cup

Saturday, August 4 - Dublin, Ohio - The U.S.A. Revolution, the men’s All-Star Australian Football team from the United States, held off a determined Canadian Northwind in a tropical Dublin, Ohio last Saturday. 

The Revolution and Northwind play each other for the 49th Parallel Cup in each of the two years prior to an AFL International Cup year (the next is 2014) in what is becoming a very competitive rivalry.
