International Cup Draw Released

International Cup 2011

The AFL has released the draw for the International Cup to be held in Sydney and Melbourne August 12 – 27.  There will be 18 countries competing in the men’s competition. Round one will be a seeding round used to determine two divisions. Teams have been split into six groups of three with each team to play the other two teams in its group in lightning match format of 2 X 15 minute halves. Based on the results of round one the top twelve teams will be placed in Division 1 and the remaining six will make up Division 2.

Portland Stumptown Throwdown

On Saturday, June 25th, the Portland Steelheads hosted the Stumptown Throwdown, a tournament featuring the Steelheads, Golden Gate Roos, and Seattle Grizzlies facing each other in a battle for West Coast supremacy. Between the beautiful weather and the great field at Northgate Park, the stage was set for a great day of footy with some fiercely contested matches between the three clubs. Each team faced each other once in games of 20 minute halves, the same format as the USAFL Nationals Tournament.

The Honorable Kim Beazley to Become USAFL Patron

The United States Australian Football League (USAFL) is pleased to announce that H.E. the Hon Kim Beazley, Australian Ambassador to the United States, has accepted an offer to become the USAFL Patron.  This marks a significant step forward in the USAFL’s efforts to further develop partnerships with key Australian government officials in the US. 

Ambassador Beazley will represent the USAFL where appropriate in working towards strengthening ties between the Australian and American governments.

Austin Crow Blake McLean Off to Collingwood

The Austin Crows recently saw the departure of star backman Blake McLean who has finished his Master's of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Texas in Austin. In exciting news, Blake has secured a position in the Sports Science department at Collingwood Football Club. After meeting with several AFL clubs, Blake was excited about the Sports Science department at Collingwood and their commitment to innovation moving forward.
