The Honorable Kim Beazley to Become USAFL Patron
The United States Australian Football League (USAFL) is pleased to announce that H.E. the Hon Kim Beazley, Australian Ambassador to the United States, has accepted an offer to become the USAFL Patron. This marks a significant step forward in the USAFL’s efforts to further develop partnerships with key Australian government officials in the US.
Ambassador Beazley will represent the USAFL where appropriate in working towards strengthening ties between the Australian and American governments.
“As a passionate follower of Australian Football, I am delighted be involved with the USAFL and its work in bringing Australia’s game to this sports loving nation,” said Ambassador Beazley.
“We hope that with Ambassador Beazley’s support we can continue to strengthen our business and government relationships to further the development of Australian Football in the US,” said USAFL President, Rich Mann.
Ambassador Beazley commenced his appointment as Ambassador to the United States of America in February 2010. Ambassador Beazley was a member of the Australian Parliament from 1980-2007 where he served as a Minister at various times in the portfolios of Defence; Finance; Transport and Communications; Employment, Education and Training; Aviation; and Special Minister of State. He was Deputy Prime Minister from 1995-1996, and Leader of the Opposition from 1996-2001 and 2005-06.
In 2009, Ambassador Beazley was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for service to the Parliament of Australia through contributions to the development of government policies in relation to defense and international relations, and as an advocate for Indigenous people, and to the community.
