What's In Store For 2013?

The USAFL Board met over the weekend of January 12-13 in Austin, Texas for the Board's Annual Planning Meeting. A large number of topics were discussed and debated. The final outcomes will be communicated and implemented over coming months. A brief outline of the main accomplishments include:

AFL Affiliation

The AFL International Affiliate Agreement, which is in place through 2016 was reviewed and accepted as well as the 2013 AFL Grant Conditions and the 2012 Financial Report, which will be submitted to the AFL on February 1 as part of the 2012 Annual Report.

Now Accepting: 2013 National Tournament Director Applications

The USAFL contracts an event organizer annually who is responsible for organizing all aspects of the USAFL National Tournament. Interested applicants may now apply. Applications will be accepted up until Thursday, December 31.

The USAFL would like to thank Rich Mann for his 11 years of service to the league in organizing the National tournament. No doubt it is a great event because of his vision and hard work. While we will miss his involvement, we certainly understand the desire to focus on family and his decision for stepping down.

Division One Outcome

On November 19 the Dallas Magpies submitted an appeal to the USAFL Board regarding the decision to vacate the Division One championship title. The Executive Board reviewed the appeal and decided against any change to the sanctions. A decision to cheat and falsify records was made and the club must take responsibility for those actions.

The following factors will be taken into account for the 2013 season:

2012 Nationals Review

The 2012 Nationals will be remembered in the history books for not only being the League's 15th Anniversary, but for also not recording a Division I Championship team.  Despite the Dallas Magpies being stripped of their Division I Championship Title, the tournament was a big success with an outstanding level of football across all divisions.  Thirty seven teams were spread across the 4 men's divisions and the women's division.  A number of new teams took the field this year including the Sacramento Suns in Division III, the Houston Lonestars in Division IV and the San Francisco Iron Maidens

2012 Honors & Awards

In its 15th year the United States Australian Football League recognized a number of outstanding individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of Australian Football here in the USA.

First, a great honor was bestowed upon two of the League’s legends in Rich Mann and Denis Ryan. They both were inducted into the USAFL’s Hall of Fame at the Welcome Function on Friday, October 12. Only one other individual has ever been inducted into the Hall of Fame, the League’s founder, Paul “Plugger” O’Keeffe.

Congratulations to the Winners of the 2012 USAFL Nationals!

Women: Denver Bulldogs

Division II: Minnesota Freeze

Division III: Chicago Swans

Division IV: Des Moines Roosters
