Denver Tournament Report

Denver Season Opener Bigger than Texas

By Paul Renouf

April 15, 2002

The Denver Bulldogs opened their season with three straight victories to win the 2002 Dallas Magpies Invitational Tournament.

The Doggies went into the tournament seemingly more determined to do whatever it would take to win. The other tournament participants were the New York Magpies, the Kansas City Power and the hosting Dallas Magpies.

Junior Development

Two more significant steps were taken toward developing Juniors Australian Football in the Southwest on the two days preceding the 2002 USAFL Administrators Conference in Phoenix, April 11th and 12th. The Phoenix Scorpions and the AZAFL were lucky enough to have the ever entertaining and energetic Junior Development Director for North America, Greg Everett in town from Toronto to help out with some Juniors Clinics at local Valley schools.

AZAFL Grand Final

Ah, at last. Grand Final weekend for the Arizona Australian Football League
arrived amid great fanfare for the anxious throngs of Aussie Rules
supporters and players. The seasoned Scottsdale Dingos having secured the
final berth in last round of AZAFL play appeared anxious and prepared to
take on the owners of the leagues best record, the Chandler Outlaws in this
years granny on the lush fields of the Scottsdale Community College
football stadium.

But hey, wait a moment. We had a curtain raiser to play first!
