Denver Bulldogs Dominate at 2011 Nationals
The Denver Bulldogs continued their dominance of Aussie Rules Football at the USAFL National Championships with a superb win over the Calgary Kangaroos on Saturday in Texas, scores being 3.2.20 to 0.5.5. The Bulldogs went through their three pool games on Saturday and early Sunday pretty much unchallenged with tough but comprehensive wins over San Diego, Baltimore DC and Seattle before moving onto the final in front of a crowd of 200 passionate footy followers and players.
As has been the case in many division one finals over the years most of the game was a defensive battle with both teams getting numbers back in support, however it was Denver that was to draw first blood and move to narrow lead at half time 1.1.7 to Calgary's 0.3.3 As the final score indicates Calgary had their chances up forward with the same amount of scoring shots but Denver's pressure as always was a telling factor.
New USAFL President Andy Vanica was voted Best on Ground from the Denver team by the umpires and Denver secured yet another trophy in the cabinet with a well earned 15 point win. Denver's reign at the top of USA footy can only be described as amazing and does not look like subsiding with their women's team also winning and their reserves coming 3rd of nine teams in division 4.
Congratulations to the Denver Bulldogs Division 1 2011 USAFL National Champions
