2018 USAFL Nationals Preview: Womens Division 1

When one thinks of Racine, a number of things come to mind: the lakefront, the diverse architecture, the charm of its residents, and of course that sweet, sweet kringle.

To sports fans and movie aficionados, the name “Racine” will instantly recall the Racine Belles of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.  The Belles were featured in the 1992 classic movie “A League of their Own,” and the real life Belles were part of a pioneering group of women during their existence from 1943-1950.

2018 Nationals Preview: Mens Division 1

Lo, for it is October.  The tenth page on the calendar brings with it many things – among them chilly weather, crisp air, foliage, and unnecessarily early Christmas decorations.  Seriously, I haven’t even bought my Halloween candy yet, what the heck?

Of more importance than all of that, October means that the National Championships of Australian Rules Football are upon us.  A year of blood, sweat, tears, and the occasional beverage of tears have brought us to this point.  To quote the immortal Ron Barrassi and probably a few others, “this is what you play for.”

USA-Australia Mateship Cup to Debut at Nationals

What was forged in the throes of war a century ago between two nations, remains strong across the decades and a massive ocean.

The United States and Australia first fought side-by-side at the Battle of Hamel in Northern France in 1918.  Since then, troops from both nations have served side-by-side in every major conflict of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

That spirit and tradition is carried on and exemplified by the USAFL, with players from both nations competing alongside one another on the field of play since the league was founded in 1997.

Crows Within One Point of Roos for #1

Labor Day is here, and the race for Racine – see what I did there? – is now in high gear.

The month of August provided us with a lot of footy across the country, and the Austin Crows’ determination to get back to the top of Mount USAFL kicked up another notch with two more huge wins in Texas Cup play.

The wins were able to help them close the gap on Golden Gate down to a single vote.  But in the end, Golden Gate remained at the top of the USAFL Top 20 poll for a third consecutive month.
