Improved Game Day Management

During the 2013 season the USAFL is implementing a League Management System (LMS) to allow for more comprehensive data recording, including match and player information. The overall goal is to provide an online management solution for clubs to record their game data and make data collection more streamlined. The USAFL LMS replaces the player spreadsheet and is the only method by which players will be able to earn eligibility points to compete at the National Tournament.

Seeking USAFL Footage

The USAFL Board recently decided to commission the creation of two promotional videos to be used to promote the League. The videos will be design to introduce viewers to the multitude of reasons why we all play this great game. The USAFL hopes to portray as many teams throughout the league as possible and accurately reflect the genuine excitement of the sport and thrilling passion for the game shared throughout the USAFL community.

USAFL Webmaster Position 2013

In 2013 the USAFL will be contracting a webmaster to look after developments and upgrades to the USAFL website and the League's overall information technology infrastructure. Interested candidates may [file:20130204_WebmasterPositionDescription.pdf=download the position description].

Revolution Training Camp 2013

The USA Revolution, the men's national team, are currently planning a training camp to be held in Los Angeles over the weekend of March 9-10.

The purpose of the training camp is to select and prepare a squad to play against Canada in the 49th Parallel Cup, to be held in Canada on August 3.

What's In Store For 2013?

The USAFL Board met over the weekend of January 12-13 in Austin, Texas for the Board's Annual Planning Meeting. A large number of topics were discussed and debated. The final outcomes will be communicated and implemented over coming months. A brief outline of the main accomplishments include:

AFL Affiliation

The AFL International Affiliate Agreement, which is in place through 2016 was reviewed and accepted as well as the 2013 AFL Grant Conditions and the 2012 Financial Report, which will be submitted to the AFL on February 1 as part of the 2012 Annual Report.

Now Accepting: 2013 National Tournament Director Applications

The USAFL contracts an event organizer annually who is responsible for organizing all aspects of the USAFL National Tournament. Interested applicants may now apply. Applications will be accepted up until Thursday, December 31.

The USAFL would like to thank Rich Mann for his 11 years of service to the league in organizing the National tournament. No doubt it is a great event because of his vision and hard work. While we will miss his involvement, we certainly understand the desire to focus on family and his decision for stepping down.

2013 USA Freedom Captain Announced

The USA Freedom coaching staff are extremely pleased to announce that Eileen Geoghegan of the Baltimore-Washington Eagles has been appointed as the new Captain of the USA Freedom women's national team.

At the 2012 49th Parallel Cup, it was announced that the reigning USA Freedom Captain, Judith Stein would be stepping down from the captaincy after 2 years at the reins. Judith was named 'Captain of the World' at the 2011 International Cup in Melbourne and her most recent efforts led the team to a momentous win over Canada at the 2012 49th Parallel Cup. Judith will continue to be a valued part of the playing squad with the Freedom in 2012.

Revolution Treated Like Saints

A group of USA Revolution players and coaches joined the St Kilda Saints in their 2013 high altitude preseason training camp December 1-2 at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Before taking the field Saturday morning, Saints Coach Scott Watters addressed the Revolution players and coaches, welcoming them to the training camp. The Revolution players then joined Saints players in team warm-ups, mingling with the likes of Lenny Hayes, Nick Riewoldt, Justin Koschitzke, Nick Dal Santo, and Leigh Montagna.

Texas Loves Your Mo!

USAFL Mo Bro's have proven that they not only look good with some fuzzy facial hair but have also shown they can live up to the name of the game by raising more than $10,000 for prostate cancer research.

It might be proof that everything is big in Texas with David Bryant of the Houston Lonestars raised a whopping $1,330, followed closely behind by Austin Crow Christian Merritt with $1,225. Even though the fundraising event officially finished on November 30, these guys are still collecting donations - way to go!

Saints Open Door to Revolution

Several USA Revolution players will join Australian Football (AFL) club St Kilda (the Saints) in their high altitude training camp in Boulder, Colorado this weekend after the team’s arrival on Tuesday. USA Revolution Coach Matt Bishop is pleased that his players will finally have the chance to be involved in an AFL camp being undertaken in the United States.
