Quebec, Portland, Calgary, San Diego Claim Nationals Flags

Divisions 2-4 in the men’s and women’s divisions may play the undercard to the top flight, but they certainly do not lack anything in terms of importance or intensity.  Old champions in Calgary and San Diego rode again, while the ever growing footy programs in Portland and Quebec raised cups for the very first time on that hallowed weekend in October.

Our look at Nationals weekend concludes with the final four divisions:

Crows, Lady Bulldogs Rule Again in Austin

To win a Division 1 championship at the USAFL Nationals, it takes a combination of skill, perseverance, and, dare it is said, a bit of luck,

The two teams that climbed to the top of Mount Football in the plains of Austin, Texas this past weekend needed all of it.  They had been there before, after all.  Austin had been used to success on home ground.  The Denver Lady Bulldogs, well... they were just used to success.

That’s what was on the lips of most folks watching today in Austin.

All of the talk about seeding and which team deserved to be higher up was thrown out the window and floated away into the hot October heat of central Texas.

Fourth seeds went boom, top seeds went flop, and for the first time that anyone can remember, including your humble author, there are no dead rubbers heading into Sunday at Nationals in any of the divisions being contested.

2015 USAFL Nationals Preview - Women's Divisions 1 & 2

You’ve come a long way, ladies.

A decade of women’s footy has come and gone.  From humble beginnings of nine-a-side matches and the “wrap rule”, the ladies who take to the field this weekend in Austin are a testament to what the game has become, and what great heights await in the future.

2015 USAFL Nationals Preview - Men's Division 1

In the summer of 1835, the legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett was defeated in his bid for reelection to congress.  When he left his native state of Tennessee, he told a group of his former constituents, “you may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.”

2015’s footy season has been yet another arduous journey, formed and fashioned on grounds big and small across America.  Through the cold and thaw of spring, into the broiling summer sun, and now into the rustic scent of fall, teams toiled through trainings, local competitions, and battles against opponents near and far.
