Season Preview Part IX - Womens West

What a long, strange trip it’s been.  We’re finally at the last of the nine part season preview series.  And we saved the best for last.

Just as it has in the men’s game, the West has produced some of the best women’s football, and, owing to the fact that Denver was in this region up until last season, an astounding nine D1 championships on the trot, as well as all four D2 titles contested.

That’s impressive.

Six Americans Lead Charge Towards AFLW

It’s been a meteoric rise for women’s Aussie Rules football over the past five years.

The most visible aspect has been the birth of AFL Women’s in 2017 and its rapid growth.  From eight teams in its inception year of 2017, the league is poised to go up to fourteen clubs next year, and it will only be a matter of time before all eighteen AFL member clubs are represented.

Season Preview Part VIII - Womens Central

In our look at the Central region's men's side, we mentioned about the long history that midwestern clubs had in the fabric of growing the game here in the USA.

For the women's side, however, it's been a more arduous task over the past five years.

Season Preview Part VII - Womens East

The biggest development in our great game, not just in Australia or here in the USAFL, but all around the world, has been from women’s football.  Indeed, a professional league now exists, state leagues in Australia are growing, and hundreds – if not more – of grass roots programs have sprung up and are already weaving themselves into the fabric of the sport’s community.

No fewer than 22 USAFL clubs have a women’s program as 2019 gets underway, and there is always the possibility of more, as we’ve seen in the past.

Season Preview Part VI - Mens West Region North

The Northwest United States is known for its mountainous terrain, towering over the rest of the countryside in its picturesque beauty.

It is an adequate metaphor for the teams based in this area, as they have been a cut above the rest of the field over the last decade.  From the Cascadia teams on through Northern California, teams from the region have won or challenged for trophies on Sunday afternoon at Nationals on a regular basis.
