2024 AFL Grand Final Watch Parties

Every country in the world has it's one centerpiece sporting event.  Its one climax where all eyeballs are on a strip of grass or hardwood or ice or whatever, between the two best teams dueling for supremacy.  Here in the US we have a few, but the Super Bowl commands the most attention with its pomp and pathos and the like.

There are few sporting events that come close to that spectacle.  But the AFL Grand Final certainly comes darn close.  From humble beginnings in 1898 to today's mega spectacle, It's Australia's biggest sporting day, attracting over 100,000 people to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.  It's the pointy end of six-plus month season, and a week filled with ceremony, tradition, and celebration of the great game of Aussie Rules football.

This year Isaac Heeney and the Sydney Swans face off against Harris Andrews's Brisbane Lions, in a rematch of the runners-up from the past two deciders.  The Swans will play in their 19th Grand Final and eighth since moving to Sydney from South Melbourne in 1982; they have won eight premierships including victories in 2005 and 2012 and fell to Geelong in 2022.  Brisbane, who were downed by Collingwood a season ago, appears in their sixth Grand Final, the first four being in succession from 2001-04, where they won the first three.  Though the teams have not met in a final showdown in their current incarnation, Fitzroy, who would merge with the Brisbane Bears in 1997 to form today's Lions, pipped South Melbourne 27-26 to be crowned as premiers for the 1899 VFL season, 125 years ago.

For those who can't get into the ground, there's always a good TV or computer screen.  And thanks to modern technology, millions beyond the great sunburnt land will be tuning in to see who will lift the Premiership Cup in season 2024.

This year, as in the past, many USAFL clubs will be hosting live! (or almost live!) viewing parties dedicated to the big match.  Many of the USAFL clubs below use the Grand Final to fundraise for their trip to Nationals, and each party will be offering everything from Aussie delectables to giveaways to fun and games and music in the lead-up to the final showdown.  So whether you're a local footy fan or an Australian just passing through the USA on holiday, come out and support your local USAFL club with fellow fans such as yourself and make some new mates in the process!

Below is a listing of USAFL hosted watch parties across the USA listed in alphabetical order by host city.  The list will be constantly updated up until the day of the big game, so keep checking back.

The AFL Grand Final is scheduled for 12:30am EDT on Saturday, September 28th (9:30pm PDT on Friday, September 27th).  Unless noted, all parties will begin on Friday, September 27th.

Some parties require tickets to be purchased ahead of time due to limited capacity, and some have specific venue guidelines (age limit, alcohol cutoff times, COVID restrictions, etc).  Be sure to check your party's event page and/or message the host club with any questions.

Can't make it out?  The AFL Grand Final will be available on WatchAFL, who will carry the pregame festivities starting at 10:30pm EDT.  Fox Sports 1 will begin coverage right before the game at around 12:24am.
