Arizona to Host Rob Dollar Memorial Tournament
On October 29, 2017, while on his typical Sunday morning ride, Rob Dollar tragically lost his life on his descent of South Mountain Park when he was struck by a car. Rob, a former Arizona Hawk and Los Angeles Dragon USAFL player, often spoke about his dream of creating a foundation to help cyclists who have been injured on the road, increase bike safety, and promote cycling awareness. Following his untimely death, family and friends created the Rob Dollar Foundation to fulfill his dream.
In support of the Rob Dollar Foundation, and to honor Rob’s memory and celebrate his passion for life, including footy, the Arizona Hawks and Los Angeles Dragons will be hosting the inaugural Rob Dollar Cup tournament in Phoenix on May 5, 2018. The tournament will be played in the style of AFLX (a squad of 10 playing 7 on 7 using a regulation soccer field) to maximize the ability for teams to travel to Phoenix to take part. Tournament players will be encouraged to make a minimum $19 donation to support the Rob Dollar Foundation (Rob wore #19). The link to donate is www.robdollarfoundation.com/donate.
USAFL clubs that are interested in sending either or both men’s and women’s teams to Phoenix to participate in the Rob Dollar Cup should notify Darren Henderson at the Arizona Hawks by Monday, February 19, 2018 so that scheduling can be confirmed well in advance of the tournament to accommodate travel arrangements, etc. And even if you can’t commit a full squad, still let us know you are interested and come to Phoenix so we can combine clubs/players and get anyone that wants to play out on the field. Darren can be reached at AZHawksFootyClub@gmail.com or by texting 951-833-7763.
We look forward to seeing you all in the Valley of the Sun to support the Rob Dollar Foundation, and to play your hearts out in memory of Rob!
