San Diego To Host 2017 National Championships
The USAFL is pleased to announce San Diego, CA will host the 2017 USAFL National Championships the weekend of October 21 - 22.
Doren James, USAFL Operations & National Tournament Director stated, "I would like to personally thank the San Diego Sports Alliance for all the work done and hospitality shown. Following months of negotiations, we're excited to be able to announce that our National Championships will travel to San Diego for the first time!"
“The San Diego Sports Alliance is excited to host the USAFL National Championships in October of 2017. We would like to acknowledge Surf Cup Sports and local USAFL club, the San Diego Lions, who have helped make this event possible,” said Joe Rubendall, Sports Sales Manager, San Diego Sports Alliance.
Rubendall continued, “We look forward to showcasing all that San Diego has to offer to USAFL staff, athletes and their families. We anticipate great competition at the World Class Surf Cup Sports Facility located in the illustrious Del Mar Beach community. The hundreds of visitors coming in for the event will enjoy our quality hotel options, near-perfect weather conditions, and a variety of attractions, restaurants and beaches. The San Diego Sports Alliance hopes to make the 2017 USAFL National Championships an unforgettable experience.”
James added, “On our recent visit, we were impressed by the quality of the playing surface at the Surf Cup facility. Furthermore, the venue is large enough for a 6th oval which creates the opportunity to add another division to the tournament. We are currently exploring the possibility of a division made up of entirely Australian teams.”
The USAFL National Championships is the largest Australian Football tournament in the world, with 4 men's divisions, 2 women's divisions, a juniors clinic, multiple development programs, seminars and over 1,000 athletes competing in over 64 games in one action packed weekend.
