Houston Lonestars New Kit Proves Worthy
The Lonestars finally unveiled the long awaited strip and it looks fantastic! Our first run with the new kit saw only 8 players make the journey to play against Baton Rouge. While small in numbers – we were big on effort to win a hard fought contest against the Tigers in a 10 a side match. The storms stayed away which meant perfect conditions for footy and Clark Park was in excellent condition. The Lonestars got off to a great start kicking into the wind and played strong contested footy all around the ground. The match was close all day and after taking a 3 goal lead
into the last quarter, we finished off well to win by 26 points. Married life hasn’t affected Matt Stevens who was sensational in the last line of defense. Nate Lane and Nick Plaisance worked hard to repel each Tiger attack and ran the ball out of the backline well all day. Adam Beers worked tirelessly in the ruck and around the ground and his greatly improved overhead marking and kicking gave us great penetration into the forward line. Justin Vaughan was in and under all day, as always, giving us great use of the footy and Dane Lance ran hard into the forward line converting a number of opportunities into 3 goals. Dan and Shaun played in a very open 2 man forward line. The old men (a combined age of 77) kicked 10 goals between them. A special mention goes to the 3 Baton Rouge guys with very little experience who played great attacking footy to get us over the line for a great win! Well done to all.
