ROOS BOUNCE THE BOMBERS
BURLEIGH’S standing as holders of the second best defensive record in the division two competition took a battering when they travelled to Fisherman’s Road for a match-up with in-form Maroochy-Northshore.
Second only to the Roos in the points-against column, Burleigh stumbled badly and were totally outplayed to the tune of 21-20 (146) to 5-9 (39).
Maroochy led only 3-6 to 1-1 at the first break, but any hope of a competitive finish were dashed when the home side put on 8-5 to just four points in the second term.
Burleigh then matched Maroochy’s third-term effort of four goals, but the last quarter was all the Roos as they rattled on 9-13.
Leading the way for the Roos were some of the club’s lesser-known players, headed by Owen Bailey, Ben Burns and Peter Hay, while Tom Booth kicked five goals.
Burleigh had Stewart Sutherland, American Chris Candelaria and Marcus Fraser as their best.
