Game Day Preview: Freedom Set to Take on Papua New Guinea Flame

The Freedom do not have much time to enjoy their first victory in Women's International Cup history.  Their convincing win yesterday over the Australia side was a great confidence boost, but they will have to focus on the task at hand against a young, skillful Papua New Guinea Flame side.  The average age of the Flame is 18 years old and they will be looking to use their youthful exuberance and speed to their advantage.

Freedom Make History

Lindsey Kastanek kicked the first goal and the Freedom never looked back in their impressive International Cup debut victory over the Australian Indigenous Multicultural team.  Playing in rainy conditions the US women played an agressive style and displayed great teamwork to run out winners by the score of 10.12 (72) to 0.0 (0).

USAFL Umpire Making His Mark at the International Cup

USAFL umpire Jon Mills is currently in Australia at the International Cup where he has had the opportunity to umpire players from around the world.   Teams that he has umpired so far include, Canada and Ireland on the women's side, Great Britain, Timor Leste and Ireland on the men's side.  

As the recepient of the 2011 USAFL umpire scholarship Mills has been given the opportunity to learn from some of the best in Australia.  On game day Mills receives tips from his assigned umpire coach.  On his off days he stays fit by training with the Sydney umpires group.
