Dan Sarbacker Appointed to Lead International Program
The USAFL is excited to announce the appointment of Dan “Sars” Sarbacker as the new lead of the International Program, following the successful 2024 Reset initiative. Sarbacker has a deep-rooted history with the USAFL garnering numerous accolades and making significant contributions to both club and country, as well as administrative positions with the league itself. He will step into this pivotal role as the organization prepares for an ambitious future.
Under the recent leadership of outgoing Director Paul “Plugger” O’Keeffe, the International Program has achieved a successful reset of the programs, including the implementation of Shared Services for Men’s and Women’s teams, the first combined training camp, and commendable performances at the TransAtlantic Cup in Toronto. Both teams made it to the finals, showcasing the program’s competitive spirit and growth.
“Sars has extensive professional and footy experience plus strategic insight which make him the ideal candidate to lead the International Program into its next phase,” said O’Keefe. “His deep understanding of our culture and commitment to inclusivity will be instrumental as we continue to build on the successes of the past year.”
Sarbacker has been an integral part of the National Teams for over two decades, with 39 international caps plus leadership roles that include Revolution captain as well as Assistant Coach for the Revolution and Freedom teams. His qualifications include an AFL Level 2 Coaching Accreditation, a USSF National D coaching license, and a degree in Architecture and MBA in Entrepreneurial Management.
In addition to Sarbacker’s appointment, the International Program will see further enhancements with the creation of two new leadership roles: Head of Football Department and Head of Operations. These positions will make up the leadership team of the International Program and will chart a path of growth based on previous successes and learnings to improve.
“With the support of the USAFL Board, I am confident that we can define the Football and Operations roles in the IP leadership team and find the right individuals throughout the entire organization to accelerate the development of our program,” Sarbacker stated. “I am looking forward to getting those leaders in place, review our 2024 performance, refine our strategies, and ensure we are set for future successes.”
The International Program’s leadership team will commence their work this fall, focusing on strategic planning, gap analysis, and enhancing operational efficiency. An After-Action Review is already underway, allowing for an unbiased feedback loop and insights that will guide the program into 2025 and beyond.
“We are thrilled about the direction in which the program is headed,” said April Munn, USAFL President, and board liaison to the International Program. “With Sars at the helm and the continued support of our dedicated team, we are excited to see how we can elevate our program to new heights on the international stage.”
“I have known Sars for the entirety of his involvement in league and international football. He has the right skillset, knowledge, global network, and temperament to spearhead this effort,” said Jim Martin, USAFL Secretary and executive board member. “We look forward to supporting him and the entire International Program as they plot a course for future success.”
