Export Report: Blecher, Hemmenway Duel in Keilor
Katie Klatt (Sacramento) – Melbourne Uni (VFLW)
Katie and the Mugars travelled to historic Windy Hill to face the Essendon Bombers, led by Canadian foes Kendra Heil and Valerie Moreau, and came out eight point winners. Playing in the back line for the second straight game, Katie gathered eight possessions and recorded a mark, totaling 22 “Dream Team” points. The Mugars go into their first bye week at 1-1, and are back in action against the N.T. Thunder at the Avalon Airport Oval on May 26 (first bounce: 9:10pm on Friday May 25 USEDT).
Jess Blecher (Portland) – Keilor FC (Northern FNL)
In a first for American footy, two USAFL women faced each other on opposing club teams in a league match on Australian soil. Blecher and the Keilor Blues hosted the VU Western Spurs, who had the services of a visiting Kim Hemenway (New York). Both players were kept off the scoresheet, but it was Blecher and Keilor who took home full points in a back-and-forth affair by nine. Blecher’s side now goes to 5-1 on the year in NFNL play, and will also have the week off before taking the long ride north to play the unbeaten Bendigo Thunder (first bounce: 1:00am on Saturday May 26 USEDT)
Tyler Ames (Denver) – Montrose FC (Eastern FL Division 1 Reserves)
Ames and the Demons suffered an 87 point defeat to South Croyon last weekend in the Denverite’s sixth game of the season and 23rd with Montrose.
