USAFL Umpires Association Launched

The USAFL is pleased to announce the formation of the first USAFL Umpires Association (USAFLUA). The board was nominated and voted upon at last year's Annual umpires meeting prior to the USAFL Nationals and is now in full swing meeting regularly each month.

The USAFLUA Board is actively working a number of projects including:

• Defining how the UA with work with the USAFL
• Refining the protocol for the payment of umpires at regional and national tournaments
• Establishment of the association’s own bank account, Pay Pal account and accounting system
• Options for liability insurance coverage
• Inclement weather guidance and policies
• Development of online and social media presence
• Planning for domestic tournaments and the International Cup

The association is now able to collect membership dues and as discussed at the inaugural meeting, membership dues to the Umpires Association for 2014 will be $20.

The USAFLUA has been formed to advance umpires in the US in education, training, remuneration, insurance coverage, and more. The Association provides a structure to bring together all umpires so that they may converse with and support their peers. All veteran and new umpires across the USA are encouraged to sign up to the association.

There are a number of tournaments throughout the year where umpires will be required. In addition some of these tournaments will also consist of Umpire Clinics. These are as follows:

• Saturday, July 19 - Stumptown Throwdown - Portland, OR
• Saturday, July 26 - Central Region Tournament and Clinic - Indianapolis, IN
• Saturday, September 13 - Western Regional Tournament and Clinic - Los Angeles, CA
• Saturday, September 20 - Eastern Regional Tournament - New York, NY
