Sacramento Suns Shine in Vegas

Decked out with their brand new kits, the Sacramento Suns headed to Las Vegas on July 28 to see if they could play as good as they looked. The Nevada sun greeted them which was almost a cool relief after the recent Sacramento weather patterns.

The day began with the Lady Suns taking on the Arizona Lady Hawks, who had some help with girls from Las Vegas, the San Francisco Bay area, Orange County, and Los Angeles filling in.

The Lady suns came out firing kicking 3 goals and 3 behinds to the Hawks 2 points in the first 15 minutes. Goals were also scored in the second and third quarters, however the Suns seemed to tire toward the end kicking only 2 points in the last. They still came away with a convincing win with a final score 8.7.54 over the Hawks 3.7.25. Goal kickers for the Suns were Amy Bishop (4), Beeban Natt (3), Vicky Schoennagel and Christina Sanghera with 1 a piece.

The next match between the Las Vegas Gamblers and Sacramento Suns show that the hard work the Suns have been putting in over the past 7 months is really paying off. The game got off to a sluggish start with only 3 goals being kicked in the first half. The second quarter set the scene for the following two periods for the Suns with a number of missed opportunities for goals. The final score saw the Suns kick 12 goals and 18 behinds to the Gamblers 4 goals, 2 behinds. Goal kickers for the men's team saw the Bishop partnership squaring up with Matt Bishop kicking 4, Brian "BJ" Johnson on 3, Saleh Tyebjee with 2, and Brand Ander, Sham Sanghera and Nathan Minshew all kicking 1 each.

Next up, the Suns host the Denver Bulldogs and Golden Gate Roos on August 18 at their first home game and tournament!
