Kangaroos Impress at Sportsfest

Brother, this is unbelievable! These are the greatest athletes I’ve ever seen! These have gotta be the best in the world! No pads, they keep on hittin’, they get knocked down, they keep gettin’ up, they don’t stop brother!

- Hulk Hogan after watching his first AFL match.

The Nashville Kangaroos hosted an exhibitor booth at the 3rd Annual Pepsi NEXT Sportsfest on Saturday, June 23 for local and regional sports fans. Sportsfest, which was held at the Nashville Convention Center, provided the perfect showcase for regional sports teams and affiliated organizations.

Not surprisingly, the ‘Roos were a major hit! Sports fans that came by the ‘Roos booth were treated to AFL video highlights while mingling with current ‘Roo members Derek Blank, Nate Caldwell, Cliff “Nugget” Cosnahan, Colin Erickson, Mike “Goon” Guinsburg, Dave “Frosty” Harris, Preston “Prezzy” Jezek, Eliot Kerner, Josh MacWilliams, Clint Milner, Luke Nemeth, Mischa Nemeth, Jeff “Peeps” Persson, David Walker, and “Joey the Kangaroo.”

The ‘Roos took advantage of the venue and exposed Middle Tennessee sports fans to the greatest sport on Earth! The Kangaroos also showcased their recent championship hardware – we currently hold the John Harrell Memorial Cup and the DUFFA Cup – and boasted of our alignment with the North Melbourne Football Club.

Club President Clint Milner was excited by the turnout. “I’ve always known that the Nashville area has the most passionate sports fans in the world,” Milner said, “but today I discovered that they are eager to learn more about Australia’s national pastime.”

Sportsfest was a great opportunity for regional sports fans to learn what Australian Rules Football is all about, learn about the USAFL, and learn more about their local team: the Nashville Kangaroos. Not many people were surprised that Nashville has a team, but they were surprised to learn that footy is truly a national competition governed by the USAFL. Sports fans were also impressed to learn that American footy players get the chance to represent the United States of America by playing with the Revolutions or Freedom in international play.

All in all, the ‘Roos had an amazing time at this year’s Sportsfest and are already planning a return trip.
