Buffaloes trail on scoreboard but come out way ahead.

On a warm but overcast morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Coach Dustin Brasel was smiling. He carried that smile all day long...for good reason. The Tulsa Buffaloes were scheduled to host the Dallas Magpies and the Kansas City Power. Going into the game he was worried that he would need players form both visiting teams to round out his team. Game day had arrived and he was surrounded by 16 eager Buffaloes. It was decided to play 16's. He had a full team (bolstered by 2 blokes from Wichita). 17 total players ..."magnificent" he thought. Let the games begin.

Needless to say, although he now had enough to play, his eager players lacked the skills and experience to compete with a salty Dallas team. Dallas came out fast and fierce. With many of the new Buffaloes seeing action for the first time the errors were plentiful and the play was sloppy. Dallas pounded the young Buffs and when the final horn sounded the 'Pies won in a walk 130 - 0. 

The first game was followed by Dallas and Kansas City squaring off. The first half proved to be pretty evenly contested. These two teams have tussled many times and this meeting was similar to the rest. Physical, fast and scrappy was how the game played out. Dallas stepped on the gas after halftime and proved to be too much. The final tally was DAL 8.10.58 def K.C. 2.4.16.

Having had a chance to rest and to watch Dallas and Kansas City show how the game should be played, Tulsa was keen to get back on the field. They had been bloodied in battle and had licked their wounds, ready to show that they were quick learners. The Power came out hot and scored two goals straight away. However, Tulsa was starting to win a few possessions and carried the play in spells. As play swayed back and forth, Tulsa caught a break. A good kick and a favorable bounce got the Buffaloes on the board for the first time. It was only fitting that Brasel scored the Buffs first goal ever. They weren't done either. Andrew Dyer added a goal and Andrew Bjorklund (Big Jerk) added a behind or two. Kansas City rolled from there on and finished up 70 - 16. 

All in Tulsa had 17 players. 11 of those 17 played their first Aussie Rules games that day. That was why Brasel was smiling. The future is bright for Tulsa.
