Women's Association to Propose Board Amendment

The following is an amendment as proposed to USAFL constitution which will be voted on by the clubs at the league's Annual General Meeting on Friday, October 12th at the USAFL National Championships in Racine, Wisconsin:

The Women’s Association has put forth before the board a proposal to amend the USAFL constitution which would allocate a permanent seat/voting position for a women’s representative. We feel as if this is necessary to ensure that going forward there will always be a person on the board whose purpose is to ensure that the needs of the women are represented. This is to not stop any further women from running for board positions, but to ensure that through board changes each year we will always have a seat at the table. We strongly believe in this position for the following reasons:

  • Women's Association to stay more involved USAFL Board
  • Better communication about initiatives and opportunities
  • Increased value for the women from the WA
  • Increased understanding about decisions and why they are made, allowing us to communicate those to the women in a timely manner.
  • Increasing transparency
  • Allow for us to take some of the tasks/asks off of the club presidents, for example:
    • the ability to set up clinics to teach proper skills at regionals for your women’s programs
    • Providing resources and guidance for establishing a women’s program for your clubs
    • Increase communication for opportunities to grow your women’s programs
  • Allows for some us to help take on some of those responsibilities to for setting these programs and ensuring that teams are developing.

While we were fortunate to have two women on the board this year, it may not always be the case. Getting more people involved, improving communication (two-ways, to the board and to the women in the league), and guaranteeing a voice are all important steps in growing and improving the league as a whole.
