USAFL Pleased to Offer Australian Scholarships
The Macquarie Scholarship and the AFL Scholarship are both open for applications.
The Macquarie Scholarship allows a US college student to complete one semester of studies in Australia while playing for the Macquarie Kookaburras. Macquarie University is a premier destination for U.S. college students, and it has hundreds of U.S. students participating in exchange programs and study-abroad programs every year. The Macquarie Kookaburras have years of experience teaching footy to Australians and non-Australians alike. The scholarship winner may also have the opportunity to take part in an internship involving sports management. The scholarship pays for one semester of free tuition to attend Macquarie University as well as accommodation for the duration of the semester. The student will be responsible for travel and visa-associated costs.
The AFL Scholarship allows a player to spend 2 to 3 weeks during pre-season training with Essendon. The airfare for this scholarship will be covered by the USAFL. This is a great opportunity to experience the ins and outs of an AFL club and to be coached by legend, Kevin Sheedy.
In addition to these scholarships the USAFL also has a number of opportunities for players who wish to spend a season in Australia playing our great game at the club level.
The scholarships are all chosen based on a number of factors. On of those factors is playing ability and the National Championships is the best place to showcase your talent. The selection committee will be at the Nationals. If you are interested in these scholarships please complete the attach application form and return to officemanager@usfooty.com by Thursday September 29th. We understand this is short notice, but we need to know those players that are interested prior to Nationals. If you have any questions re the scholarship please talk to Paul “Plugger” O’Keeffe during the Nationals.
