Macquarie Scholarship Winner Headed to Sydney

USFooty is pleased to announce James Brunmeier, of University of Wisconsin – Eau Clair and the Milwaukee Bombers, as the winner of the 2005 Macquarie University Australian Football Scholarship to attend Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. James is a senior and plans to graduate in December of this year with a major in German Liberal Arts. He carries a GPA of 3.35.



 


James started playing Australian football in August of 2003. After his first game, he couldn’t get enough of it.Macquarie University Since then he has traveled the country playing for the Milwaukee Bombers and the American Revolution, the USAFL’s National Team. James said, “My understanding of the game has been growing but I still have so much to learn. Getting the chance to study and play in Australia during the spring of 2005 will be an amazing opportunity to further my knowledge and skills of the game.”


 


James headed down to Sydney this February for a full semester to study at Macquarie University and to play with the Macquarie University Kookaburras in the Sydney Football Association. Macquarie University is very excited about this scholarship and is looking forward to hosting James. Macquarie is located in the suburbs of Sydney, with around 25,000 students including 5,000 international students. The university has one of the most productive research programs in the country and an internationally recognized business school. In recent years, the Macquarie University Kookaburras have been the most successful club in the SFA. 


 


This is the third year running that Macquarie University has donated this scholarship to an American born USAFL player. James is following in the footsteps of Tim Weir of the Philadelphia Hawks (2003 Winner) and Justin Valley of the Pittsburgh Wallabies (2004 Winner). The USAFL would like to thank Macquarie University, Macquarie Kookaburras, and everyone involved that has made this scholarship possible.  


 


USFooty would like to wish James all the best in both his collegiate and football education while in Sydney and look forward to him being a great ambassador for USFooty.
