USA Revolution/Development Squad 2004

The U.S. player’s response to the East/West game has been outstanding and the Revolution coaching staff is looking forward to seeing all the players perform on June 12. Nominations have been received by over 100 players which is fantastic for the game in the U.S.A. For the players, just like last year there will be some that none of the coaching staff are currently aware of, so regardless of what game you play in or what position you are assigned, play as hard as you can and earn a spot on the teams for the 2004 International games. Performance in these games against Canada will be vitally important for anyone who wishes to be part of the squad to tour Australia next year in the International Cup.

The Atlantic Alliance Cup was unfortunately reorganized after all European teams decided not to attend. The USA Revolution squad will be divided into 2 teams to play 4 games over 1 weekend in Toronto July 31 and August 1. Besides the USA Revolution team, a Development squad will also be selected with the plan to select younger players (preferably U23) who in future will hopefully progress to the USA Revolution team. This will be the largest number of USA players ever to travel and play together. On the Saturday the USA Development squad will play the Canada Northwind and the USA Revolution will play the Canadian Development squad. On Sunday both Development squads will play each other and the final game will be the 6th International between the USA Revolution and the Canada Northwind. The winner not only will win the 49th Parallel Cup but also the Atlantic Alliance Cup. Besides the obvious benefit of the Revolution playing together, this is a fantastic opportunity for all USA players to represent their country, experience games at a higher level, develop friendships with players from all over the country and give themselves multiple opportunities to impress the coaching staff for selection in the 35 man squad to Australia in August 2005.
