Portland Footy Resurrection

After being under formation since 1998, the Portland Australian Rules Football Club has coalesced quickly in the last month due to the patient work of Scott Johnson, the recent arrival of players from other areas, and some new players who were prepared to have a go.  Many thanks to John Meier at USFooty and the Seattle and Vancouver BC footy clubs for their support in getting the club started.  Our official team name is still to be formally decided.

Immediate Priorities:

  • Establish regular match schedule of at least 9-a-side Metro footy against the existing Seattle Grizzlies and Vancouver Cougars football clubs.

  • Welcome as many new male and female members, participants, officials, and supporters as possible.

  • Field a team, or at least provide the opportunity for team members to participate in, the AZAFL Metro Footy World Invitational in Arizona (February 7-8, 2004).

Medium-term Priorities:

  • Consistently field teams for 18-a-side matches.

  • Establish feeder clubs at The University of Portland and Portland State University.

  • Establish a USFooty Kids program in the Portland/Vancouver metro area under the direction of accredited junior coach and umpire, Jeff Moffatt.
