John Harrell

Dear USAFL,

It is my sad duty to inform you that John Harrell, founder of the Louisville Cats and visionary in the early development of the USAFL passed away, following a brief hospitalization, on Tuesday. The passing of John was sudden and unexpected and we here at the LFC are still in a state of shock.

John's loss will be keenly felt here in Louisville and I imagine throughout

the league. Please remember his wife Laura and daughter Hannah in your thoughts and prayers. I am including a link to the C-J story about John.

======

I am sure you are as shocked as I am to hear about John's passing. Most people are unaware of John's early influence on footy in the USA. John has a lot to answer for as he was the person that got me involved all the way back in 1995. I meet John in Chicago, in 1995, with a number of other people, to discuss his vision of a Midwest footy league. His initial efforts assisted the majority of the USAFL Founding clubs in getting started. His early embryonic efforts created the grassroots foundation that prompted the rest of the league.

This weekend as you go to your games or training have a thought for John. When you go to the pub afterwards I urge you to raise your glasses and toast one of the pioneers of our great game. I know I will.

Paul "Plugger" O'Keeffe

Founding President, USAFL
