AZAFL Metro Footy Tournament

The long awaited information for the AZAFL Metro Footy Tournament in Arizona is now available. It has been quite exciting to receive inquiries from all the teams interested in participating in the tourney. New clubs showing interest include Nashville, Florida, Canada, New York and a mess of clubs in Texas to name just a few.


Which begs the question; how many teams will we allow to enter the tournament?


The answer is: As many teams we can accommodate, providing they get registered.


We'd like nothing better than to have everyone who wants to make the trip to show up. However, we need to know who's coming. We need to know how many teams, umpires, independent players and hangers-on plan to attend.

Here's how it's going to work.


Each club entered needs to send to the address above the following information and items NO LATER THAN JANUARY 7, 2003: A list of the players making the trip along with each player's T-shirt size. Ten bucks for each player up to a maximum of $125.00 per club (If you bring 13 players, you're MAKING money on the deal!). A list of players crazy enough to help umpire (in any capacity). A list of folks from your club that are crazy enough to only want to umpire (field, goal, boundary or scoring).



Why do we need this stuff?


Well, I'll tell you. We're gonna make tournament T-shirts up with each club attending printed on the back, so we gotta know who's showing. Heck, if you're traveling here as an independent looking for some fun, sun and footy your name may make it on the shirt. Providing we get you registered by 1/7/03. Know what we're going to do with the T-shirts? Each registered player is going to get one just for showing up. Plus each club will get one "Runner" T-shirt free of charge so we'll need a size for that too. And maybe a couple of other freebies we're still working on.


We're thinking the max number of teams will be capped at 16. However, we're going to make every effort to accommodate every team and player who wants to show up.



In any case, the tournament draw will be posted on our tournament page at http://azafl.com/Tournament.htm on January 14, 2003.



We are also encouraging umpires to show up and take part as well. We take care of the umpires here in AZ. Their Saturday night dinner and beverages are comped by the AZAFL.



We have a SMOKIN' deal with Hospitality Suites this year. Only $79 for a one-bedroom suite (sleeps 4 comfortably) or $69 for Junior King suite (one big-ass king-size bed). There is a happy hour from 5 PM to 6:30 each night and free cooked breakfast. We need you folks to get your rooms booked by December 21st to make sure we get enough rooms blocked.
