Macquarie University Scholarship

The USAFL and Macquarie University are proud to announce the Macquarie University Australian Football Scholarship program. This program will enable one U.S. college student to attend Macquarie University (http://www.mq.edu.au/international/abroad/) in Sydney, Australia, for one semester FREE! The student will be able play for the Macquarie University Kookaburras Australian Football Club (http://www.muafc.com/) in the Sydney Football Association or other appropriate club, and learn the game from Macquarie's experienced coaching staff, including its Head Coach, David Beauchamp. The Kookaburras were SFA premiers in 1998, 1999 and 2000, and currently lead the league.
The scholarship is open to all U.S. citizens currently attending a four-year college in the United States and playing for a USAFL club. It is open to students in all academic disciplines taught at Macquarie University. The applicant will be chosen on the basis of both academic and on-field performance and will require a minimum GPA of 2.5. To be considered, applications must be postmarked no later than September 30th, 2002, and must include a cover letter, a college transcript, and two reference letters, one from a professor at the applicant's college and one from the head coach of the applicant's USAFL team. The scholarship pays for one semester of free tuition to attend Macquarie University. Students will be responsible for travel, living and visa associated costs. The USAFL and Macquarie University are also looking into other opportunities including work and training opportunities with the Sydney Swans and other sporting organizations. Applications will be reviewed by the AFL Scholarship committee (U23 Revolution Head Coach, USAFL Player/Coach Development Officer, and USAFL Junior Strategy Officer) who will recommend the applicant to Macquarie University. The final decision will be made by the University. The successful applicant will be notified by November 15th, 2002.
